Physical and Chemical Properties | The physical and chemical properties are based on the purity of the hydrogen used, and the product composition is ZrH2-xo. Between ZrH1.6 and ZrH2, zirconium hydride has two forms, the room temperature type is oblique fluorite type square crystal, and the high temperature type is fluorite type cubic crystal. Because hydrogen occupies a certain position in the crystal lattice, not only the formation of interfilled compounds, zirconium hydride also has δ type (face-centered cubic crystal, composition range ZrH1.44 ~ ZrH1.65) and γ type (composition range ZrH0.05 ~ ZrH1.36). The appearance of zirconium hydride is metallic and the powder is black. Relative molecular mass 93.24. Relative density 5.74. Heat of formation 124kJ/mol. The conductivity is between metal and semiconductor. When the pressure drops to 1.33 × 10-3Pa. Hydrogen is released at 400 ℃ to become metal. No hygroscopicity. Stable in the air. It does not react to water and weak acids under normal conditions and is easily soluble in 1% ~ 5% hydrofluoric acid. Can react violently with oxidants and strong acids. When it is ignited, it can burn smoothly. It is almost completely decomposed by heating to 500~700 ℃. |
Use | Uses Zirconium hydride is a strong reducing agent. Used as an additive. Deoxidizer and desulfurizer when preparing ferroalloy. Mixed with calcium carbide and nitride, it can be used as a metal coating. Because it can be infiltrated with ceramics, it is used as a metal-ceramic adhesive for vacuum tubes and ceramic devices. In addition, it is used as neutron moderator and other materials for atomic power stations, getter for vacuum tubes, trap, flux, etc. |

Preparation method
sponge-like metal zirconium with 99.8% purity and high-purity hydrogen (99.9999%) can be prepared by direct reaction to 400~600 ℃. The reaction is an exothermic reaction. Or reducing zirconium dioxide with calcium hydride at 600°C in a hydrogen stream can also be prepared.
Production method
the product is obtained by reacting zirconium powder in hydrogen stream at 300~400 ℃.
